Vinted Tax Calculator UK: Free HMRC Limit Checker
Last checked against GOV.UK and the platforms' help pages: 26 October 2026 · General information, not tax advice
What this checker does, and doesn't do: it shows how close you are to the limits that matter for Vinted sellers: the 30 sales / about £1,700 platform reporting rule, and the £1,000 trading allowance. It does not calculate a tax bill or tell you how much tax you owe. That depends on your profit, your other income and your circumstances.
Enter what you've sold so far this calendar year. Everything runs in your browser: no sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your device.
What the checker tells you
- Whether each platform is likely to report you. Platforms report sellers who make 30 or more sales, or receive €2,000 (about £1,700) or more, on that platform in a calendar year (GOV.UK). Each platform counts separately. The checker uses £1,700 for every platform. eBay's own figure for 2026 is £1,707, measured after fees: see our eBay threshold guide.
- Where you are against the £1,000 trading allowance. If you buy or make things to sell, the first £1,000 of gross trading income each tax year (6 April to 5 April) is tax-free. Over that, you must register for Self Assessment (GOV.UK). This is counted across all your platforms and side hustles together.
- A rough profit, if you add your costs.
What it doesn't do
- Work out your tax bill. If you're trading above the allowance, the tax is dealt with through Self Assessment, the system HMRC uses to collect Income Tax. What you pay depends on your profit and your other income, so no simple calculator can give you a reliable figure.
- Decide whether you're trading. Selling your own unwanted things is generally not taxed. GOV.UK says you're unlikely to pay tax on personal items like the contents of a loft or garage. Buying or making things to sell for a profit is likely to be trading. HMRC's free checking tool can help if you're unsure.
- Cover Capital Gains Tax. A single personal item sold for £6,000 or more at a profit could be liable for Capital Gains Tax, after the £3,000 yearly allowance. The checker doesn't look at this.
- Match the platforms' exact figures. Each platform measures sales slightly differently, so treat the reporting check as a rough guide.
Reported doesn't mean taxed
Reaching 30 sales or about £1,700 means Vinted asks you to fill in a short HMRC form. It doesn't mean you owe tax: Vinted and GOV.UK both say so. Our Vinted HMRC form guide explains the form and the end-of-year deadline, and our Vinted tax guide covers when tax actually applies.

The checker is a one-off snapshot. To track sales as you go, try our free profit tracker spreadsheet, which has tax-year tabs and the same limit checks. Or join the SideLedger waitlist: the app will log sales and fees and warn you before you near the limits.
